ASK THE BMXPerts: BIKES BY THE ENGLISH POUND
Bookmark and Share

HI,
My son has just turned 10 and he wants a new BMX bike. He currently has the Mongoose Micron, but he wants a better one. He has about £200-£250 to spend. What do you recommend?
Thanks
Gwen Peat

ANS- Gwen, glad to see you looking out for your kid. The Micron is a good bike to get around town, but when it comes to serious riding, he is right to be looking for a bike that has more to offer in the way of performance and a whole lot less in the way of unwanted weight. We aren’t quite sure what bikes you have readily available to you, or how much the price of bikes inflates between the US and the UK, but given a rough conversion, 250-pounds is about 388-dollars. With retail the same on both sides of the pond, we would look into the Fit Inman One. It retails for $369 and after a recent test, which you can see in the January 2012 issue of the mag, you will find it is easily our favorite bike we have ever tested in this price range. On the other hand, if that conversion doesn’t stick, big brands like Haro and Free Agent or KHE may have something that will suit your needs as well, and right in your price range. Thanks for coming to us first Gwen.
