A: No, bottom bracket widths have become pretty standardized in the sport, but bottom brackets will vary depending on the type of spindle you have. Spindles come in a wide variety of diameters, widths and spline counts, for both sealed and unsealed bearings and are all specific to the arms you are using. So you are half right, there is an association between the spindle and bottom bracket being used, but your spindle decides the bottom bracket, more specifically, the bearings to be used, not the other way ‘round.
