ASK THE BMXPerts: RIGHT SIZE FRAME
Bookmark and Share

I’m 5"4 and I’m looking to purchase a Kink Launch with a 20.25” top tube frame.
Would it be two big for my size or is it just be preference? (btw I’m still
growing in height) Thanks.

Mike Brown

If you are still growing then you may want to go with something bigger. You are tall enough that you should start to shop for what you will end up riding, or close to it. For example, if your mom and dad are both tall and you are expecting to be about 6’ in the next two or three years, then get a bike with a 20.75” top tube and grow through it on your way to a 21” or 21.25”. If you are close to done growing and think you may hit 5’8”, then the 20.75” will be the size you will probably run for the long run. For racers, specific frame size is very important, for freestyle, it is easy to get something a little big and grow into it.
