Is there any benefit to a Pivotal seat and post versus a seat/post combo because the combos are way cheaper?
If you are looking to save a few bucks then a seat/post combo is a dialed way to go, especially now that they are offered by a variety of brands with a variety of seat shapes and sizes. The only real downside to a seat/post combo, versus a Pivotal seat and post is lack of adjustment to the seat angle and limited height adjustment. A Pivotal seat can be tilted up a tic for clearance purposes on tricks like turndowns where a flat seat that is slammed will jab your leg, or tilted down in the nose to prevent snags for many flatland links. Pivotal seat posts are also available in a variety of lengths, while combos come almost exclusively short so if you run your seat more then an inch or two out of the frame, then a Pivotal post is a must. Hope that helps, happy trails.
