ASK THE BMXPerts: FUTURE IN PHOTOGRAPHY
Bookmark and Share

My names Bryce Blanton and I’m looking to start working as a photographer. I love taking pictures of bmxers and skaters. In fact that’s really the only thing i take pictures of. I was wondering if I would be able to shoot some stock photos for your magazine.  I would love to have an opportunity to do this. Please let me know if this would be possible and any feed back is much appreciated.

Many photographers work for years to get on our freelance staff for photography but by the looks of things you are on your way Bryce. Our advice for now would be to work on getting a little closer to the action and experiment with flashes. You seem to have no shortage of talent to work with, so take a shot, like a wall ride, then find a wall ride shot you like in the mag and try and duplicate what you see with flashes and different lenses. That’s how we got our start. Pretty soon you will be able to look at a photo and know exactly how it was shot, so if you are faced with a tricky lighting situation or angle, you will be able to sample from other photographers experience. If you don’t have flashes or lens options to work with, check out Keith Terra’s BMX photography, he does some amazing things with available light and a 35mm lens. Keep us in mind when you’re famous Bryce.
