ASK THE BMXPerts: AMERICAN OR MID BEARINGS
Bookmark and Share

Okay, so I’ve recently ordered new sealed bottom bracket bearings and I have a problem. My frame is American, I have (or thought I had) American sealed cups. The site I ordered from claimed they were for American and Mid… The problem is, my old bearings are freaking ¬†huge and these ones are way too small. I don’t want a whole new bottom bracket, I’m broke yo! But is there any way I can get cups that will fit or did I just waste my money?
I need answers quick…

Your question is all over the board Caleb, but here is what we think happened. An American bottom bracket is two parts; the bearings and the cups. A Mid bottom bracket uses the same bearing as an American bottom bracket, but without the cup. Sounds to us like you just ordered the bearing and/or there was confusion and were sent only the bearing. Double check with the place you ordered from what it was specifically that you ordered and we are sure they will help you figure it out. Cups and bearings can be separated and repressed together as well, so reusing your old cups is always a backup option.
