ASK THE BMXPerts: MAKING FUN OF SCOOTERS
Bookmark and Share

Hi I’m “Bubbles” (changed to protect the identity of the writer) and I am 12 years old. I don’t BMX but I love the mag. smile. I scooter and I hate when people make fun of me for no reason, just for scootering. I think it’s about the same as BMX. I am a very small dude, so it’s hard for me to ride BMX because I don’t have much muscle for it. I do love to ride on dirt tracks and in the marsh and stuff but I can’t do any tricks. I think you should put a section of tips and tricks for scooters in the magazine. Thanks alot –“Bubbles”

Bubbles,

People aren’t making fun of you for “no reason” they are making fun of you because you are riding a scooter, but don’t worry, if it wasn’t the scooter, it would be your shoes or haircut, you’re twelve, that’s just what kids do. Try not to take this too personally, but BMX is a far cry from scooters and muscle is not a real excuse, it’s just your excuse. If size or strength mattered, Brett Banasiewicz would only be allowed to play with Flick Trick bikes, because he only weighs 85-pounds (give or take two pounds) soaking wet. Case in point, dedication and passion can overcome any shortcoming. As for comparing bikes and scooters, that’s like comparing a Radio Flyer wagon to a Trophy Truck. As much as we would love to see someone try to self propel their scooter fast enough to jump a 40-foot double, or even scratch the same airspace as Chad Kagy on the Mega Ramp, its just not going to happen, so no matter how you cut it, scooters are not the “same as BMX.” Now, does this mean they cant be fun? Not at all, so go have fun and if people make fun of you for it, brush it off and work on being the popular kid when you’re eighteen and it matters. As for scooter tips, maybe consider buying a bike…
