ASK THE BMXPerts: GUIDANCE COUNCELOR

Hey guys what’s up? My names Bretton, I read your mag all the time, it’s the best! My friend and me found this rail and took it back to my house and finally started grinding. I’ve been riding for 8 months and I can bunny hop about 13 inches and I was wondering if you could give some pointers on any park of street tricks, preferably 180’s. Thanks. (P.S. Daniel Dhers is my favorite rider I’m his number one fan and he crushed everybody at the X-games) Peace!

Bretton, the cool thing about park and street riding is you can do whatever you want. If you see things and have an uncontrollable urge to jump over them, feed that need and focus on doing bigger or more technical gaps. If you ride parks and all you want to do it go really high, then work on that. The key is to follow what feels best to you, that is of course unless that happens to be sitting around with your face glued to the Slurpee machine. The problem most riders face is they follow the scene and never develop the gift they may have in the sport. So for starters, go with what feels best to you. If 180’s still feel best to you, then take them to a mellow bank. The most frustrating part about 180’s is the roll out. Find a mellow bank, hop, turn and ride away, even if you only turn 90-degrees. This will build your confidence and allow you to focus on perfecting your spin first. Good luck.
