BARSPINS, THE WRONG WAY?

Q: Yo BMX Plus!, you guys are my favorite magazine. My names Matt and I am 12 years old from Levittown, PA. I have been trying to learn barspins on flat. I read your How-To on them, but one question kept coming to my mind… Which way do I throw them? I ride with my left foot forward, I throw a ball with my left hand, but I write right-handed. Please help me!

BRAKELESS AND BUMMED

Q: Hey, I’m Derek and I am 15. I have been BMXing for 7 years, I think. Anyways I recently upgraded from a Dyno to a pro BMX bike, but the bike I got doesn’t have brake mounts. At first I was like, no big deal, but I have trouble when stopping because I keep ripping up the bottom of shoes. I will swing the tail out and slam my foot in the rear tire. The problem is I don’t have enough cash to get a new frame. I would like to know if you have any other ideas on how to stop my bike.

OLD SCHOOL GT TOUR OR TEAM

Dear BMXperts,
I’m 35 years old and still riding. One of my dream bikes along the way was the 1987 GT Pro Freestyle Tour Team model. I found a guy that has one, and he must have been a full on poser because it looks brand new. The problem is that it’s not the Team model so no 3-piece crank, and mags instead of rims. He wants $500.00 for it. I could float it, but is the bike worth it?
Thanks,
Greg

21” TOP TUBE OPTIONS

Q: Hi, Let me start off by saying that I love the mag and that you guys have helped me with everything from how the bike works to riding the bike. The question that I have for you is that I’m looking into a bigger bike something like a park mountain bike or a freestyle cruiser. I am 6’2” and it is hard to find a 20” freestyle that has a 21” top tube. The bikes I am looking at are the Eastern Trail-digger 24 and 26, any opinions? Also if you can recommend a 20” freestyle bike with a 21” TT under $600 that would be great.

QUARTER PIPES AND 180’S

Q: Hey BMXperts! I need help with 180`s. I know it helps to turn my head when turning, but I just cant seem to get the full 180, I usually end up landing at about a 90, if lucky about a 120. I know there are many tips on Youtube and all over the web, but I thought you might know more. Also please tell me how to air out of a quarter pipe, I’m not sure what to do and have never tried.
      Thanks

Q: Do spindle sizes vary depending on the type of bottom bracket you have?

SPROCKET TROUBLES

Q: Dear BMXperts,
I have a Hoffman Disrupter that’s about 4 years old but
my older brother took my sprocket and traded it for his but
when he put mine back on he put it on crooked and now
we can’t get it back straight. Could you please tell me how
to solve this problem. Please!

THE PERFECT MANUAL WEIGHT

Q: Hi BMXperts, I weigh 36kg (79lbs) and can’t manual, is it because I’m to light?

UPGRADE CRAZY ON A BLEND 2

Q: Hey I’m Will, the one that asked about a 09 Mirraco Blend 2? Guess what? Some jerk jacked my bike, but now, I am planning to buy another one (the same model) and I have some questions. I am 5’5” and I am an intermediate rider. I enjoy riding street and park (mostly street) and it comes with Maxxis Grifter tires. What tire do you think I should get? What do you think about Premium Resist/Refuse? I also want to be able to run a gyro so should I trim my steer tube? Should I get Odyssey PC pedals or Eclat PCs? Should I get the Premium 9 stem? I like to go off of stairs. What kind of grips should I get? I like thin super soft grips. Thanks. P.S. Your magazine rocks!! My friend and I fight for the newest issue.

CAN TALLER PEOPLE HOP HIGHER

Q: My friend has a 2010 Verde Radia and I have a 2009 Mirraco Blend 2. Our bikes weigh the same and we are both even in riding skills…its just that he can do higher barspins, hops and 180s! I am 5’5” he is 5’9”, does height affect our riding abilities, or is he bagging on me just because I’m Asian? Please reply. He is making me mad!!

SEALED HEADSET SWAP

Q: I have a GT BMX bike that uses ball bearings in the headset. Can I buy sealed bearings and just put them in or does the frame have to be made a certain way?

DIRT IN PERTH

Q: Hi,
My name is Blake and I am ten-years-old. There are no BMX jumps or skate parks near me; the closest ones are like 20 kilometers away. So, my mates and I made a petition up to get some dirt jumps built. They built them and they’re really bad. There is a roller to get speed off of, but it is only about one and a half meters tall. From the roll in there is about a meter of flat before the lip to the first double and it is like two meters tall, so it’s like impossible to jump. On the other side of that is a set of whoops that are about a half meter high and there are only three of them. We thought this was rubbish because we got 1247 signatures to have the jumps built. What can we do now?

TAILWHIP TIPS

Q: What up BMX Plus!, I have been working on tailwhips off curbs and ledges and just can’t seem to keep my legs in the air. The bike only gets about 180 degrees away from me. Have any tips on how to land this trick?

Fabian Gaytia

CUTTING YOUR STEER TUBE

Q: Does having the steering tube on your bike shorter help in any way, and if so how?

PEDAL POWER

Q: I’m just starting to ride. I just got a new bike yesterday. I was out riding and I did a bunny hop, when I landed I broke my pedal. This is the second time it has happened to me!! What should I do??
