What an incredible year 2010 has been for ARF.  We definitely went out with a bang in Las Vegas at the Dew Tour Finals.  Soo much was going on, basically everywhere you looked ARF was either holding an event or a company was raising funds for the cause.  Check out how we finished up the season below.

Poker night

The first annual “All in 4 ARF” Charity Poker Tournament was a great success.  Some noticeable players like Austin “Chumlee” Russell from the documentary airing on the History Channel “Pawn Stars”, Tiffany Michele and Maria Ho whom are both pro poker players, Actor Michael Cudlitz, Pro Skaters Anthony Furlong & Jake Brown, Pro BMX riders Rob Darden, Dave Dillewaard and TJ Ellis, Vans Team Manager Jerry Badders and tons more.

Anyone in the action sports industry is very competitive and for the people who “claimed” they didn’t know how to play there was a lounge area with music, food, drinks and a photo booth that was blowin’ up all night.  There was even some pics that we can’t show here!

When it came down to the final table it was quick play as the blinds had reached their limit.  5th place honors and a $300 gift certificate to Hart & Huntington Tattoo went to Mark Silvert, BMX Pro Rob Darden took fourth place honors which awarded him a hotel package that included two nights stay at Hard Rock’s HRH Tower, dinner for two at Rare 120, two treatments at Reliquary Water Sanctuary and Spa, & VIP access to Vanity nightclub.  Third place honors went to Alyssa Hawley who pocketed $500.

The final head-to-head battle was BMX versus Skate as TJ Ellis (BMX) and X Games Big Air Skate Gold Medalist Jake Brown.  The chips stacks moved back and forth from player to player until TJ Ellis claimed the last hand and took the top honors.  For Jake Brown’s play he went home with $1,000 extra cash and TJ Ellis took $2,000 and the exact same Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Package as fourth place!

Hart & Huntington Charity art auction

Carey Hart is a legend in FMX. I was proudly at the Gravity Games when we all knew he was getting ready to throw the first ever back flip on a full size motorcycle.  No one knew what was going to happen and we were all scared to death for him.  With his own 3 bitch run rule he sent it and the rest is history!  I was actually shooting the flip on a Sony VX 1000 and later shared the footy with Cary and Crusty Demons of Dirt.

Carey was up to a lot of cool events during the Dew Tour Championships in his hone town of Las Vegas.  Carey actually had one of Mike Cinqmars (R.I.P) last FMX bikes all restored to its original condition.  With the Chrome plastic setup and every sticker Cinq used to run.  It was an awesome tribute.

Another cool event was the best whip contest.  Held in the back lot of the world famous Hard Rock Hotel and Casino FMX riders threw out some of the sickest whips in the game and the new kid on the block Jarryd Mcneil took home the top honors.

Later that night was the live art auction to benefit the Athlete Recovery Fund.  Artists from Hart & Huntington Tattoo laid down some amazing custom work on Fender Guitars and Plan B Skate Decks.  As an added surprise there was a well known TV show shooting its 25 season and their job was to actually learn about ARF and pitch everyone who walked by with the story and info about the items up for auction.  It was super cool to see some complete outsiders embrace ARF and truly put in an honest effort to help out.  I will keep you posted on the show when it airs, but huge thanks to Carey and Pink (who both won items in the auction), Big B, Mooch and the whole crew from H&H.  We nearly raised $10,000 from all your effort and we greatly appreciate it!

Festival Village at Dew Tour

2010 was by far the busiest summer of all time for ARF.  Well we have only been around three years but the festival village at the Dew Tour was showing some love for ARF all year.

Dan’s Comp has been representing at each stop of the tour with a raffle that included complete bikes, videos, apparel and more.  All the money raised made it’s way back to ARF and in Vegas Playstation got on board and even put up some games and PSP units to boost the raffle ticket sales.

Paul Mitchell really came on board from the beginning.  Before ARF had even fully been established and Stephen Murray’s injury was still fresh they offered to have their top stylists from Paul Mitchel Schools to cut hair for a cause.  All season long local stylists at each stop were cutting and coloring with all the funds raised going directly to the ARF!

The final day of the Dew Tour includes the Dew Cup awards show.  This years “Playstation Player of the Year” award went to Bucky Lasek who picked up a sick package of PS3, games and more. The honor goes out to an athlete who contributes not only to the sport but also his community outside the sport.  Bucky has been a huge supporter of the ARF and we were honored to receive the donation of $5,000 made in his name from Playstation.

Ball Park came to the ARF last year with an amazingly inventive way to raise money and awareness for ARF.  They created a viral video with the goal that for every view on the video Ball Park would donate $1 up to $100,000.  Within about a month and a half we reached our goal and it was a big enough success that they came back again in 2010!

Working with bnqt.com and ARF to produce a brand new video once again the stage was set to hit the goal of 100k views for $100k.  Dave Mirra stepped up this time to host the video which featured a number of action sports elite from BMX, Skate and FMX.  During last years video facebook and twitter were just coming on the scene, but this year with the help of DC Shoes, Metal Mulisha and Fox Racing posting links to the video on their social network pages within a week we were already at 380,000 views!  Huge thanks to Ball Park for stepping up once again!!!

AFMXA Nationals and Ramp Awards

The ARF is proud to support the AFMXA and the Lusk Legacy Foundation.  AFMXA is the only group in the sport of FMX working to establish standards and growth in the gnarliest sport there is.

As part of their year end event the AFMXA Nationals will feature the best amateur riders in the world, giving them a chance to ride in front of their heroes and attend the annual Ramp Awards which will all air on FUEL TV.

Make sure to come out to Pala (near San Diego, CA) Dec. 3 & 4 to partake in the fun. All spectators get in free. As an added bonus the world premier of Jay Schweitzers “On the Pipe 6” will show right after the awards show and just before the 80’s hair metal themed after party brought to you by the ARF.

Vote for your favorite rider of the year by clicking here.

Ramp Awards 2010
With every year that passes ARF continues to grow and I am constantly amazed by both the positives and the negatives of this venture.  Vegas was a great event but I was visiting three athletes in the hospital all in serious condition.

Keep your eyes peeled for all the info regarding a TJ Lavin fundraiser Dec. 3rd back at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.  Book your tickets now as it’s going to be a huge event.

Starting Nov 19th on Transworld and Van Homan teamed up to auction away a package including his complete bike from the X Games and tons of goods from his sponsors!

Be safe these holidays and love your family.  Each day is a gift.

RIP Andy Irons
