Assembling the perfect tool kit
Share |

It’s just what the doctor ordered for every rider.

There is nothing worse in life, not even waiting for a broken limb to heal, than being caught out in the heat of a session with an out-of-whack wheel or loose stem. You know why? Because accidents happen, and at least you got hurt going for it. But forgetting the tool you need most when you are in perfect health, the weather is ideal and the session is on will leave no one to blame but yourself and your own neglect. So don’t get caught with a sideways seat, a loose headset or a broken chain that you can’t fix at a moment’s notice. The solution? A custom tool kit tailored to your ride that eliminates all of the heavy excess you didn’t want to be hauling around in the first place.

1.) You’re not really going to press new BB bearings into your frame at the park, are you? So why carry this…

2.) …when you can pack all of this…

3.) …into this?

4.) Flats and tire damage are common, so be prepared. Park Tool makes a cool peel-and-stick patch pad that is paper-thin and can be used to patch tubes or boot a sidewall on the go.

5.) Chains break, so be prepared to break your chain. This Park Tool folding chain breaker is the perfect compact companion.

6.) Be prepared to true you and your friends’ wheels. Multi-size spoke wrenches are no larger or heavier than single-size models, so be a pal.

7.) Be prepared to adjust or remove your wheels with the proper size wrench or sockets for both front and back.

image
8.) If you can get your tires off the rim by hand, skip the tire lever, but if it’s a tight fit, be prepared with the minimum amount of tire levers necessary.

9.) Finally, a universal Allen wrench set will save your session 100 times to one, so invest in a quality set that covers all your bike’s needs.
