Installing locking grips. Quick, easy and finally, comfortable.

Locking grips like the Flights (shown) are the hot ticket for the racetrack where throttle grip can mean more then just a bad day. When Olympic gold is potentially on the line, the last thing you want is a fist full of grip, which is no longer attached to the bars.

Remove your old bar ends. If they are press in style plugs, unplug them. Duh! If they are wedge-type plugs, get a screwdriver or hex-wrench and pull that wedgie out.

If you are cheap, like us, shoot some Windex or WD-40 under your old grips, yank them off and save them for a rainy day.

Clean off your nasty bars, especially if your new grips are trick clear joints like our Flights.

Loosen your brake lever and slide it in so it is out of the way. Leave it loose so you can slide it back once your grips are installed.

We previously hated “lock-on” grips because they felt like, well, lock-on grips; bulky and hard. But check these out, half the grip is soft, improving its feel and reducing its size, while the flange is, get this, soft! Yah, we’re fo’ real, locking grips that feel like normal grips.

Get this, no goop, no spray; just slide them onto your bars. Exhausting we know, so don’t feel bad if you have to take a break after this step. We wont make fun of you, that much…

Line your grips up flush with the end of your bars.

Turn your grip so the non-sleeved side faces forward, keeping your baby soft hands comfortable and blister free.

Lightly tighten both lock rings and make sure your grip hasn’t shifted.

Tighten them down snug to secure them to the bars.

If your grips are cool like ours, they will come with press in bar plugs. It took us a while to figure out how to install them and darn if they don’t press right in. We marvel at technology sometimes.

Slide your lever back into place and tighten it up.

Head out to the track with your head held high, and yes, your new grips make you cooler then the rest of the people there; it’s not just a feeling. Now get your snap, throttle free and win something would you?!
